"If Your System Is Alkaline, You Can't Get Cancer"

"If your system is alkaline, you can't get cancer." "Cancer can't survive in an alkaline environment." Those are simple-sounding sentences, phrases people hear or read and latch onto, generally without thinking much about what they mean. They even get "pH paper" in order to measure the alkalinity or acidity of their saliva and urine.

But what is "your system" supposed to be, anyway? Whatever "your system" is, your blood must be part of it, and your blood must remain at an alkaline level of between 7.2-7.4 or you will either get very sick or die. Your intersticial fluid must also remain alkaline or you will become deathly ill or dead. So again, what do people suppose they mean when they say "cancer can't survive in an alkaline system?"

Incidentally, a lot of the pH paper people buy says for "in vitro use only," meaning a test that is done in glass or plastic vessels in the laboratory, so it is questionable whether the pH paper is giving an accurate reading, not that it matters anyway.

What matters is not "the pH of the system," whatever that is supposed to be, but rather what when and how you eat, when and how you sleep, how much exercise you get, how much sunshine or vitamin D3 you get, what your stress level is, what your insulin level is, what your weight is, and how much fresh air you get each day. Those are things to be concerned about, not what color a little strip of paper turns when you put it in your mouth.

Here's a summary of how to lessen your chances of cancer,(or most any other degenerative dis-ease, for that matter), without worrying about making a strip of paper change color:

Eat a mainly plant-based diet of all kinds of vegetables and fruits, paying special attention to dark, green leafy things. Stay away from junk, such as refined sugar and flour, potato chips, soda pop, and all the other stuff you know you shouldn't eat.

Get 20 to 30 minutes of moderate exercise at least 3 days a week, with 5-6 days being better. (Rebounding is an excellent exercise for both muscles and the immune system. See my post about rebounding on this blog.)

In the warm months, get 15 to 20 minutes of sun daily, making sure not to burn your skin. Get outside frequently, and breathe plenty of good, fresh air. If you live in a temperate area, take D3 in the darker months.

If you get to where you're under undue stress for a prolonged period of time, do something to get rid of it. Either get counseling, change jobs or whatever it is you need to do to lower your stress level.

Get to sleep at a decent hour---certainly before 11 PM, and 10 PM is much better. Sleep in a pitch black room. This allows your retina to shut down completely, which allows your immune system to work most efficiently while you sleep.

Take green food supplements: chlorella, spirulina, alfalfa, barley green, wheat grass, etc. Take enough of them so that your stools are green. Now there is a color you ought to pay attention to. Green stools are a far better indicator of health than pH paper.

Buy a glucose testing kit so you can check your blood sugar periodically. The level of your blood sugar is another indicator of health that is far more important than "the pH of the system."

Thanks for your time, and good health to you.

PS - There was a time when the cancer with which I was diagnosed was growing no matter what I did, so I tried to "raise my pH level." By taking various mineral solutions, I got the pH paper to register a little above 8.0! What happened? The cancer didn't shrink, but I got very sick! So I am living proof that cancer CAN survive in an "alkaline system."

How To Tell You're Getting the Point About What To Eat!

If, when you're at the check-out counter at your local grocery store, and the cashier has to at least occasionally ask you, "What's this?!" or if he/she has a difficult time looking up the item on the list of produce items for sale, you're getting the point about what sorts of things you need to buy and eat. Examples: kale, chard, ginger root, water cress, collard greens , shitake mushrooms and so on...

If, when you go into a gas station "Food Mart" to pay for your gasoline bill, and you realize you are surrounded on all sides by "foods" and "beverages" that are harmful to your body, you're getting the point about how Americans are slowly poisoning themselves with the kind of junk such places sell. It's a travesty that they're allowed to use the term "Food Mart." They ought to be made to use the term "Junk Food Mart" to describe themselves. Even if such places happen to have fruit for sale, it's invariably unappealing, artificial-seeming, red "Delicious" apples, or else very green, plastic-looking bananas. It's as if even the fruit in gas station "Food Marts" has had the life sapped from it by the deadly junk that surrounds it.

The "Race For The Cure???"

To tremendous numbers of Americans, the “Race For The Cure” is a wonderful humanitarian enterprise, something that, if they don’t take part in every year, at least is an event they approve of and think to be exceptionally worthwhile.

Unfortunately, the truth about the “Race For The Cure” is very different. There will be no “cure” for cancer.By that I do not mean there will not be individuals who recover from cancer. Obviously, there are and will continue to be such people. But the concept that some scientist will one day cry, “Eureka! I’ve found the cure for cancer!” similar to Jonas Salk discovering his polio vaccine, is sheer fantasy.

Those who promote “The Race For The Cure” mislead the public into thinking that “the cure” is just around the corner. In fact, “the cure” they pretend to be working on is nowhere to be found, nor will it ever be found. Here’s why:

Finding“the cure” for cancer is a fantasy because, while polio and other infectious, communicable illnesses are caused by a bacterium or a virus, cancer is a degenerative condition, an illness one does not “catch,” the way one catches or gets infected with polio, measles or mumps. Though a particular bacterium or virus may play a part in the development of a few cancers, cancer is very much a condition that develops over time, due to a person’s lifestyle. It does not, as many people believe, "strike out of the blue," regardless of how you live। Getting cancer is not like some kind of "bad luck" lottery, in which mere chance determines whether or not you receive a cancer diagnosis.

Tobacco, alcohol and drug use, wrong diet, lack of fresh air and poor breathing habits, under or over-exposure to sunlight, poor sleep habits, lack of exercise, overweight, certain sexual behaviors and prolonged stress are some of the most common reasons a person develops cancer. There are genetic reasons, as well, but the genetic tendency to develop cancer can be lessened or eliminated by living a cancer-preventive lifestyle. Dr. Matthias Rath, a long-time colleague of Dr. Linus Pauling, has said, “Genetics may load the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger.”

Most everyone now recognizes that tobacco use is responsible for a significant percentage of cancers, but precious few people know that diet is responsible for even more cancer than tobacco use! Authorities such as the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute estimate that diet is responsible for at least 35% of all cancers, and that 80% of all cancers have a “dietary component.” Other authorities estimate that diet is responsible for far more than 35% of cancers.

There is therefore a deadly irony in seeing someone wearing a "Race For The Cure" T-Shirt in the grocery store check-out line waiting to pay for a cart full of cancer-causing groceries. The carcinogenic items in the cart generally include: doughnuts, pepperoni and sausage pizza, white bread, white crackers, white spaghetti, white flour, white pastries, white sugar, hot dogs, candy, cookies, pasteurized, homogenized milk, potato chips, high fat cheese and pasteurized processed cheese food, ice cream, soda-pop,(diet or not, makes no difference), anti-biotic and hormone-laden beef, chicken and pork, foodstuffs that contain "hidden" trans-fats, and plenty of boxed, canned and bottled preservative-laced, processed foods. In among those items may be scattered, as tokens of health, a head of iceburg lettuce, some oranges, apples and bananas, a bunch of celery, some onions, a sack of potatoes and a few tomatoes.

It's bad enough that so many shoppers harbor in their minds the lie that given enough money and time, researchers will find "the cure" for cancer--- that one day, because of money raised by "The Race For The Cure," the scourge of cancer will disappear, similar to the scourges of polio and smallpox. But worse than that is the fact that shoppers have no idea that most of the groceries they're buying,(as well as the groceries they're not buying), have far more to do with the possibility of them or a family member dying of cancer than does all the money that's been raised by the "Race For the Cure."

Simply put:

1. If you buy groceries like the average American, one of your biggest risks of developing cancer is right there in your shopping cart.

2. Unless the groceries in your shopping cart differ radically from the groceries in the carts of nearly all the shoppers in line with you, you're feeding yourself and your family carcinogens, and you're passing up many groceries that have anti-cancer properties.

Right now, anyone who gets cured of cancer gets treated individually, based on the kind and location of the cancer, the stage of the cancer, the aggressiveness of the cancer, the age of the person diagnosed, and other personal, case-specific factors. Because cancer presents in so many different forms, and attacks so many different organs, that will continue to be the case. That is another reason that “the cure” for cancer will never be discovered.

Happily, though, there IS a "cure" for cancer---the same "cure" that all but wiped out typhoid here in the United States. It's called "prevention."

Typhoid was wiped out by establishing public health departments throughout the land with powers of enforcement to eliminate the conditions which led to outbreaks of typhoid fever---conditions such as locating water wells and sanitary facilities too close to each other and the expulsion of raw human waste into streams and rivers.

Similarly, during the building of the Panama Canal, the incidence of malaria was greatly reduced by getting rid of and poisoning the breeding places of the mosquitoes that were spreading malaria.

Therefore, if you wish to avoid developing cancer, you must identify and eliminate the conditions in your life that are "breeding grounds" for the cancer. You already know tobacco use greatly increases your chance of developing cancer. If you don’t smoke, or if you have quit smoking, that's excellent, but you need to do more than that; you need to identify and eliminate the other areas in your life that are promoting your chance of developing cancer.

The "Race For The Cure" myth needs to be replaced by the truth of "The March For Prevention." It's only through a concerted effort to educate the public about PREVENTION that deaths from cancer in this country will be significantly and permanently reduced.

REBOUNDING - THE VERY BEST EXERCISE FOR THE IMMUNE SYSTEM!

I was diagnosed with low-grade lymphoma in 1989, and have lived far beyond how long mainstream doctors say I should have. I am still in very good health today, and I would call it excellent, except that I have periodic bouts of bronchitis.

In my opinion, one of the very MOST IMPORTANT things I have done to maintain my good health, and to keep the lymphoma in remission, if not out-right shrinking, is an exercise known as REBOUNDING. The tremendous value of rebounding is that it exercises the lymphatic system like no other exercise can except that of jumping rope. (But with rebounding there is far less impact on the joints than there is with jumping rope.) The lymphatic fluid travels through the body via a system of what can be likened to "one-way straws", connected by valves, and each jump up-and-down on the rebounder moves the lymph along, causing it to travel through the body as much as 15 to 30 times as efficiently as when the body is at rest. But even better than that is that rebounding can cause a state of non-disease-induced neutrophillia, which is an increase in the number of white cells circulating through the body, particularly neutrophils, which are one of the types of white cells most responsible for destroying cancer cells.

While gentle bouncing may possibly cause a slight increase in neutrophils, and jogging a little more, by sprinting in place for just one minute on the rebounder you can cause your neutrophil count to as much as double what it normally is,(based on Dr. Arthur C. Guyton's "Textbook of Medical Physiology," Fifth Edition, Page 74, Paragraph 5), and to remain at that level for about an hour! Any middle-aged adult who tried to sprint in place on anything but a rebounder would soon end up with shin splints or some foot, ankle or knee injury.

Rebounding looks very simple, and it is. It consists of gentle bouncing on a special mini-trampoline. When you do what's called the "health bounce," your feet don't even leave the mat. If you wish, you can of course jump higher than that. Also, if you wish, you can jog or run in place. The rebounder stands about 9 inches off the ground, and has a special "soft-bounce" mat attached to the frame with 4" long springs, the total surface diameter being 40".

There is a REAL, SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE between the cheap, Asian-made mini-trampolines that are sold at Sears and at K-Mart and the USA-made Rebounder that I use. The cheap mini-rebounders do NOT have a soft-bounce mat, they stand only 4-6 inches off the ground, and they do not have the necessary 4-inch long springs. For those reasons, you cannot do proper rebounding on a cheap mini-trampoline, and in fact you can hurt your ankles, knees or back. Such cheap models will not avail you of the kind of "lymphasizing" exercise I am talking about.

I keep my rebounder near my desk, and get up as often as possible to bounce on it for anywhere between 1 and 30 minutes at a time. Even just a minute or two can be sufficient to stir up the circulatory and lymphatic systems, which tend to settle down and to "pool" in the legs, ankles and feet when one is sitting for an extended period of time.

The ability to do it at any time throughout the day and evening is one of the very significant advantages of rebounding over other exercise. If you go out walking in the morning, and you walk briskly 2, 3 or 5 miles, you will certainly be getting some good exercise. But an hour or maybe two hours after you've finished your walk, your lymphatic and circulatory systems will be back to the rate of flow they were at before you took your walk, and they'll remain that way till the next morning. The same is true for any other once-a-day type exercise. However, if you have a rebounder at your office or in your home, (or both), you'll be able to get on it and do some bouncing or gentle jogging throughout the day, so as to keep your blood and your lymph circulating continually, thereby doing the maximum job of keeping yourself healthy, or, if you are dx'd with cancer, of fighting the cancer.

There is no special clothing required for rebounding---you don't even have to take off your shoes! And you can of course rebound no matter what the weather is like outside. On the other hand, if the weather is nice outside, you can take your rebounder outdoors, so as to avail yourself of the fresh air and sunshine! ;+))

There are several companies that sell rebounders. But my favorite is Needak Rebounders. They've been in business for decades, they're made in the USA, their customer service is outstanding, and they sell a 1/2 fold rebounder that comes with a carrying case so you can take it wherever you go. For those who have balance problems, they also sell a "stabilizer bar" that bolts securely onto the rebounder that you can hold on to.

I feel so good about Needak Rebounders that I have become one of their distributors. If you would like information on purchasing one at a great price, please contact me by phone at 309-367-6002 or 309-635-1577, or email me at aug20@mtco.com.

Here's an example of why I decided to do business with Needak: Years ago, before I knew about the quality and integrity of Needak, I was using a rebounder I'd bought from another company, when two of its springs broke. I called that company, and they gave me a difficult time, and told me they'd send me two replacement springs if I sent them the broken ones, and that shipping both ways would have to be paid by me!

I knew about the Needak company but had never done business with them. Just to see what they'd say, I phoned them and told them about the problem I was having with that other company due to the broken springs. The customer service person at Needak immediately offered to send me SIX new springs,(that would fit the other company's rebounder), for free! Ever since then, I have been a loyal Needak customer. I might add that every time I've had occasion to phone Needak, a LIVE person, not a recording, has answered the phone on the first or second ring. That's hard to find nowadays!

WHAT YOU PUT OR DON'T PUT IN YOUR SHOPPING CART SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTS YOUR CHANCE OF DEVELOPING CANCER

I've written a post on this blog titled, "WHY CANCER BEGINS IN YOUR SHOPPING CART." In it, I promised to write another post about what you can buy at the store to eat and drink that will lessen your chance of developing cancer. Depending on whose opinion you're reading, you will find that diet is responsible for, or at least plays a significant part in, anywhere from 30 to 60 percent of cancers.

Nearly all vegetables and fruits have some anti-cancer properties, as do legumes, nuts, seeds, such as sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds, and healthful oils, such as flax oil, olive, grape, walnut and avocado oils.

Here are some of the best anti-cancer vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds :

TOMATOES and tomato sauce,(WITHOUT added sugar and salt)---tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful cancer-protective phytochemical

RED ONIONS, APPLES and SPINACH ---all of these contain "quercitin," which is a powerful antioxidant that protects against cell damage from free radicals

CHILI PEPPERS---these contain "capsaicin," a substance that can cause cancer cells to self-destruct.

CARROTS, CANTELOUPE, SPINACH and ---these contain plenty of beta carotene, a substance that has been shown to reduce the incidence of cancer.

CRUCIFEROUS VEGETABLES---BROCCOLI, BRUSSELS SPROUTS, CABBAGE AND CAULIFLOWER, TURNIPS and RADISHES being the most well known ones.
This category of vegetables contains a variety of nutrients and phytochemicals that help protect against cancer.

These are also cruciferous vegetables: KALE, COLLARD GREENS, KOHLRABI, MUSTARD GREENS, ARUGULA, HORSE RADISH and WATERCRESS.

BERRIES---BLUEBERRIES, STRAWBERRIES, RASPBERRIES and virtually all other types of berries are very high in antioxidants and are an excellent source of phytochemicals that aid in blocking the growth of cancer cells. One of these is called anthocyanin, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of lung, colon and leukemia cancer cells.

BEETS, SWEET POTATOES, AVOCADOS, ASPARAGUS, RED GRAPES,(buy domestic or organic grapes---grapes from Chili and elsewhere are loaded with pesticides), TAPIOCA, ORANGES, LEMONS, GRAPEFRUIT and SHITAKE MUSHROOMS are other fruits and vegetables with significant anti-cancer properties.

DANDELION GREENS---Young dandelion greens, as in the ones that grow in your lawn, are loaded with vitamin C and other anti-cancer elements. Before you spray your dandelions, try adding some,(make sure they are YOUNG and SMALL), to salads, or lightly stir-frying or steaming them.

GARLIC---contains several compounds that help protect against cancer, particularly cancer of the skin, lungs and colon.

WHOLE GRAINS---Substitute WHOLE grain products for those made from white flour, which contains almost no fiber or nutrition, and promotes the conditions that can cause cancer. WHOLE grains contain fiber, of course, as well as antioxidants and phytoestrogens. Evidence is accruing that phytoestrogens may have protective action against prostate, breast, colon and other cancers,(as well as against cardiovascular dis-ease, brain function disorders and osteoporosis.)

CANCER & OTHER DIS-EASE DEVELOPS IN A STAGNANT BODY

Before I start on this topic, allow me to explain why I spell the word "disease" this way: "dis-ease." I do so in order to give the word back its original meaning: "a lack of ease." The spelling "disease," and the pronunciation "duh-zeze," leaves people clueless about the fact that in most cases, the reason they are sick is due to the "dis-easeful' functioning of one or more parts of their body, and that in the majority of cases, the most important thing they need to do, in order to heal, is to restore easeful functioning to the parts of them that are dis-eased.

Now, everyone knows it's a good thing to exercise, and most people, if asked why it's good to exercise, would give reasons such as, "to lose weight or maintain a healthful weight," "to exercise and strengthen the heart," or "to become stronger or to maintain your strength." Those people with arthritis would say exercise is important for relieving some of their pain, and to slow the progression of the arthritis. Some people might even say, "to prevent dis-ease," and they would be right, along with the people who gave the other answers. But I wonder how much any of those people would know about just why exercise helps prevent dis-ease, including cancer.

The reason is that the lymphatic system, (the part of our bodies composed of white cells, one of whose functions is to destroy and devour germs, viruses and cancer cells), is a network of vessels, much like blood vessels, with one highly significant difference between them: The HEART pumps the blood, while MUSCULAR ACTIVITY, not the heart, pumps the lymph.

Each time you breath out, or expire, your diaphragm, the primary muscle of breathing, pushes upward, an action that pumps lymphatic fluid through your body and keeps it circulating constantly.

EXERCISE causes your expiration to become more active. New sets of muscles are used: Muscles of the abdominal wall contract, pushing the diaphragm upward more vigorously, while the contraction of the internal intercostal muscles, in opposition to the external intercostal muscles, pulls the ribcage downwards. These combined actions accelerate the expulsion of air, which increases the speed and efficiency of the circulation of your lymph. Furthermore, exercise increases the number of killer cells, or neutrophils,in your lymph, killer cells being the white cells that destroy bacteria, viruses and cancer cells.

In the 3rd edition of his Textbook of Medical Physiology, Dr. Arthur Guyton states that 1 minute of vigorous physical exercise increases the number of killer cells in the lymphatic system by 6 to 7 times normal, and maintains them at that level for about an hour.

So, getting your daily exercise is even more important than you might have realized.

Research appears to indicate that in the development of colon cancer and some other cancers, the combination of being overweight as well as being inactive, greatly increases one's chance of cancer, and the research also appears to show that inactivity alone may be MORE significant, with regard to cancer, than overweight alone.

By the way, gardening, or cleaning house or other activities that cause one to be active, do not count as exercise. Certainly, gardening and house-cleaning are far better for you than is bed rest. But I myself have tried substituting gardening for regular, specific exercise, and it didn't take long before I could feel that my body needed more than gardening for me to feel energetic and generally healthful.

The specific exercise I particularly prefer and enjoy is rebounding, which is bouncing, jogging and occasionally sprinting in place, on a mini-trampoline. The advantages to rebounding are many, just a few of which are that it is very low-impact, and it can be done in any kind of weather and at any time of day.

For lots more information about rebounding, please scroll up this page till you come to the post titled, "Rebounding: The Very BEST Exercise For The Immune System!"
